25 years ago one of the USA’s most awarded Hairdressers, Farouk Shami’s career came to a grinding halt. He was told the toxic ammonia in the hair colour he was using every day was killing him. He was left with two options, continue and die or find an alternative. It was at that point he and a team of scientists invented the worlds first Ammonia Free Hair Colour.
Eco Hair Products CEO, Cliff Georgiades met Farouk at the World Hairdressing Championships in 1996. Cliff was also one of Australia’s most awarded Hairdressers and represented Australia as sole judge at the Championships.
Farouk and Cliff formed a strong bond that led to Eco Hair Products becoming the exclusive Australian distributor for Farouk Systems USA.
Today the CHI, Biosilk, Farouk Royal and Sunglitz professional hair care brands are used in over 100,000 salons worldwide.
In addition the brands have been embraced by Hollywood Studios and have been the hair product of choice in movies such as “Sex And The City 2”, “The A Team”, “Burlesque”, “Wall Street 2” and television series “The Big Bang Theory”, “Desperate Housewives”, CSI Miami”, “Two and A Half Men”, “Gossip Girl”, “Ugly Betty”, “Criminal Minds”, “House”, “American Dancing With The Stars” and “American Idol” to name a few.
Cliff Georgiades has over 30 years experience in the Hairdressing Industry, owning salons in the Melbourne CBD area. A leading figure in the industry, he has won over 30 Australian and International awards, including the coveted Gold Medal by the Confederation Internationale de la Coiffure (the World Hairdressing Body in Paris), where he represented Australia as "Artistic Delegate & Chairman of Judges" from 1983-1998.
Upon meeting the CEO of Farouk Systems at the Washington World Cup Championships in 1996, Cliff was so impressed with the Farouk Systems range of colours and retail lines, that he brought in the entire range to test in his salons for over 2 years. In that time, his colour clientele increased by 50%.
After attending the Farouk Systems Conference in Las Vegas in 1998 (with over 500 distributors from around the globe), Cliff decided to import the entire range to Australia, and officially launched ECO Hair Products at the 1999 Hair Expo in Sydney.
